A section of the Deutsche Bahn line between Neukieritzsch and Altenburg will be closed for several weeks for construction work between Saxony and Thuringia. The closure will apply from 10 p.m. on Saturday night, as announced by Deutsche Bahn. Until 17 May, extensive timetable changes, train cancellations and replacement bus services will apply to the five-kilometer section Neukieritzsch-Deutzen-Regis-Breitingen-Treben-Lehma-Altenburg.
All changes are available in the timetable on the Internet and in the DB Navigator app. Residents may experience noise pollution. New tracks and platforms, bridges, overhead line systems and telecommunications technology will be built. The section should be double-tracked throughout from May.
The section that will be under construction in the coming weeks is part of the Saxony-Franconia main line through Thuringia, which is 288 kilometers long. It is being modernized in many sections. Among other things, 32 signal boxes will be built and 223 railroad bridges will be renovated.
