The S-Bahn in Central Germany is getting new and modern vehicles. Deutsche Bahn announced that 34 Mireo trains will be in service from December. The fleet will reportedly offer more space and better connections in the Leipzig/Halle area. Some of the vehicles are equipped with batteries and can therefore also run without overhead lines.
"From December, they will connect Naumburg directly with the Leipzig City Tunnel and thus offer passengers a significantly improved service," said Saxony-Anhalt Infrastructure Minister Lydia Hüskens (FDP).
DB Regio is deploying 18 four-car Mireo trains with 200 seats and 16 two-car Mireo Plus B vehicles with 100 seats. Spacious multi-purpose areas are intended to make everyday life easier for passengers with baby carriages, luggage or bicycles, it said.
