Passengers in Central Saxony will soon have to adjust to higher ticket prices. Subscription customers can save money, however. Where and when prices will rise and which tickets will even be cheaper.

Bus and train passengers in the Central Saxony Transport Association (VMS) will have to pay more from next spring. Prices are set to rise by an average of 2.4 percent from April 1, 2026, as announced by the VMS. The reason for this is the transport companies' higher costs for personnel and materials. Part of this will now be passed on to passengers.

A single journey in a VMS fare zone will therefore cost 10 cents more in future, or 3.30 euros. "This is a comparatively moderate cost adjustment for our passengers," said VMS Managing Director Mathias Korda according to the press release. The VMS covers the districts of Zwickau, Central Saxony and Erzgebirge as well as the cities of Chemnitz and Zwickau.

Group tickets will be cheaper in some cases

Some multi-person day tickets, on the other hand, will be cheaper according to the VMS. For example, the Verbundraum day pass for five people will cost €1.60 less from April. The day pass for children will cost 1.80 euros less. Korda cited the expiry of the Capital of Culture ticket at the end of 2025 as the reason for this.

The prices of subscription products for schoolchildren, young people and senior citizens will remain unchanged, it said. According to the VMS, around 75 percent of all passengers currently use such a subscription.
