Construction prices have risen throughout Germany in recent years. Saxony is no exception. Last year, the price increase was comparatively moderate.

Construction prices in Saxony have risen slightly over the course of the year. For residential buildings, they were three percent higher in May this year compared to the same month last year, according to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz. Prices for shell construction work rose by 2.1 percent, while finishing work cost 3.8 percent more. In the finishing sector, work with natural stone (12 percent) and insulation and fire protection (11.8 percent) were particularly affected by price increases.

Technical structures also more expensive than a year ago

In the case of engineering structures - i.e. technical structures - the year-on-year price increases were 3.9 percent for road construction, 2.9 percent for bridges in road construction and 4.2 percent for local sewers. Services for cosmetic repairs in a home increased in price by 1.6 percent compared to May 2024, and measures for the maintenance of residential buildings by 3.3 percent.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, construction prices have risen sharply in recent years. Between 2010 and 2022, prices for residential buildings increased by 64 percent. This price development depends on many demographic and economic factors, it said. For example, a growing population, a short supply of real estate and low interest rates have led to rising prices.
