The mineral water market is growing: Lichtenauer is benefiting from increasing demand for returnable glass bottles and health-conscious consumers.

Lichtenauer Mineralquellen significantly increased its sales last year. According to the company, a total of 174.8 million liters of mineral water and non-alcoholic soft drinks were sold in 2025. This corresponds to an increase of 7.1 percent compared to the previous year.

Mineral water and reusable bottles as growth drivers

The company cited the mineral water segment and the increased demand for reusable glass bottles as the most important growth drivers. Returnable glass containers in particular have increased significantly.

The mineral water market also developed positively nationwide. According to preliminary data from the Verband Deutscher Mineralbrunnen, sales of mineral and medicinal water rose by 2.4% to just under 10.2 billion liters in 2025. Including soft drinks, the industry as a whole grew by 1.2% to 13.2 billion liters.

Flavoured and still mineral waters have recently been in particular demand. The industry association cites growing health awareness among consumers as one of the reasons for this. Despite the recent increase, per capita consumption remains below the pre-coronavirus pandemic level at 128.8 liters.
