The renovation of the A4 Königshainer Berge tunnel near Görlitz is nearing completion. From December 14, traffic will once again be able to flow through the south tunnel in the direction of Görlitz if the necessary tests are successful, as announced by Autobahn GmbH. Once the work has been completed, a functional test of the technology and a final fire test will be carried out.
New emergency call cabins and more fire sensors
The extensive renovation work in the tunnel began in March 2024. During this time, traffic will be routed alternately in one lane in both directions through one of the two tunnel tubes while work takes place in the other tunnel tube.
In order to meet the increased safety requirements since completion in 1999 and to bring the tunnel up to the latest state of the art, new emergency call cabins and more sensors for early fire detection were installed, among other things.
