The Ore Mountains will get a direct rail connection to Leipzig. The Central Saxony Transport Association announced that service is scheduled to begin by spring 2027. Passengers will then be able to travel between Annaberg-Buchholz and the trade fair city without having to transfer. For now, however, only a few trips are scheduled in the morning and evening. An expansion will depend on the planned upgrade of the Leipzig-Chemnitz rail line, officials said. According to the plan, Coradia Continental battery-powered trains—which are already in service between Leipzig and Chemnitz—will be used. For the new service, individual trains will be extended beyond Chemnitz to Annaberg.
