The gaming festival "Caggtus" in Leipzig has set a new visitor record at its fourth edition. According to Leipziger Messe, 22,400 visitors came to the site from Friday to Sunday, 2,700 more than last year.
This year, the festival occupied two exhibition halls with a total area of around 40,000 square meters. More than 100 exhibitors and sponsors presented new products from the games and hardware industry. International games publishers Blizzard Entertainment and Bethesda, as well as hardware manufacturers such as Samsung and MSI, were also present for the first time.
The heart of the "Caggtus" festival was the largest LAN party in the German-speaking world, according to the organizers. Over 2,300 participants could theoretically play for up to 70 hours. There were quiet zones behind each row of seats for breaks in between. According to project director Constantin Strobel, the event could continue to grow despite the record attendance.
"The gaming festival by the community for the community" is a formula for success for "Caggtus", said Markus Geisenberger, Managing Director of Leipziger Messe. Following the Games Convention's move to Cologne and the migration of the "Dreamhack" gaming festival to Hanover, this is the third attempt by the trade fair to focus on computer games.
