Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt have criticized the German government's plans for the construction of new gas-fired power plants - in particular the so-called southern bonus. Although the plan is basically going in the right direction, it has "considerable flaws to the detriment of eastern Germany", explained Saxony-Anhalt Energy Minister Armin Willingmann (SPD).
New gas-fired power plants are intended to ensure security of supply with electricity as part of the planned gradual phase-out of coal by 2038 and to step in during so-called dark doldrums with low generation from solar and wind energy. Up to two thirds of the capacity is to be created in the "grid south" and one third in the rest of Germany, which includes the entire east.
