BSW accuses federal government of lack of precautions for fuel and gas

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance in the Saxon state parliament has accused the federal government of failing to prepare for the current price hike for fuel and natural gas. Both the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the global impact on energy supplies were known to be the result of an attack on Iran, explained party and parliamentary group leader Ronny Kupke in Dresden. However, German gas storage facilities are currently only around 20 percent full.

In Germany, this situation was caused by the federal government's "haphazard "principle of hope" for a mild winter and spring", said Kupke. The supply bottlenecks also had to do with the fact that "the Russian gas supply - cheap and reliable - was cut by the EU due to the war in Ukraine".

BSW sees eastern Germany particularly affected by developments

In Kupke's opinion, the current petrol station prices reflect a "haphazard policy". This promotes poverty. "Eastern Germany has been hit even harder by this development: Fuel prices here have already been among the highest nationwide for some time," emphasized Kupke. Inflation is also rising faster in the east than in the west.

Alliance deplores major upheavals in society

"This desolate energy and therefore also foreign policy is leading to major upheavals within Germany that are affecting the weakest," emphasized Kupke. "The petrol station shows in a drastic way how the old parties are pursuing a policy that consistently neglects German interests and thus the well-being of the population and even actively harms the people."

After the attacks by the USA and Israel on Iran and the backlash from the Iranian military, prices for fuel and petrol have also risen sharply in Germany in recent days.
