Demand among people with foreign roots for jobs in Saxony is on the rise. In 2025, the relevant authorities received a total of 2,824 applications for the recognition of professional qualifications obtained abroad, according to the State Statistical Office. That was 117, or 4.3 percent, more than in the previous year. 1,136 foreign degrees—less than half of the total—were recognized as fully equivalent to a qualification obtained in Germany.
At the same time, the number of cases that were approved with conditions increased. In 165 cases, the applications were not recognized. Most applications concerned the professions of registered nurse (732), physician (441)—in this case, regarding the granting of a medical license—and teacher (388). In the 2025 reporting year, the most common applicants were those who had completed their training in Ukraine (666), Syria (478), and Brazil (137).
