Streetcar collides with bus - many minor injuries

Numerous people have been injured in a collision between a streetcar and a public bus in Dresden. According to the police, most of the casualties were minor injuries. An exact number could not be confirmed at first. Several media outlets had previously reported.

The accident occurred at around 8.30 a.m. at the intersection of Cossebauder Straße and Warthaer Straße in the district of Cotta. The streetcar on line 12 was turning there when it collided with the bus.

Large-scale operation and traffic disruptions

The collision caused the streetcar to derail. Firefighters were busy lifting the streetcar back onto the tracks in the morning. Due to the large number of injured people, a so-called mass casualty incident (MANV) was triggered in order to coordinate medical care.

According to initial findings, the injured people were both in the streetcar and on the bus. No serious injuries were initially reported. The scene of the accident initially remained closed. There were considerable traffic obstructions.

The exact cause of the accident is still unclear. An investigation has been launched.
