Timo Werner also played a decisive role in the victory in his second outing for his new club San José Earthquakes. The former international set up the 1-0 win at Philadelphia Union one day after his 30th birthday with a dream pass. The Earthquakes thus also won their third game of the still young season in the North American soccer league MLS.
"Timo is a quality player. We know that he will not only set up goals, but also score goals the longer we work with him," said coach Bruce Arena. Werner came on as a second-half substitute and set up the goal of the day for Ousseni Bouda in the 59th minute. Werner had already set up a goal for the striker from Burkina Faso in his first appearance for the Earthquakes against Atlanta.
