The first step towards the comeback of the women's Tour of Thuringia has been secured. The organizer and the city of Gera signed a contract to stage a one-day race on 21 June. The Thuringia Women Cycling Challenge is the successor to the Tour of Thuringia, which is no longer being held for financial reasons. As the city of Gera announced, the route will initially lead 80 kilometers through the surrounding countryside before five final laps are held in the city area. The ascent to the Ferberturm with a length of 1.7 kilometers and an average gradient of six percent will characterize the race. The race is part of the UCI's ProSeries. The one-day race is intended to help turn the Cycling Challenge back into a tour. There are already plans to hold a three-day tour in 2027 and finally a six-day tour in 2028. The Tour of Thuringia had to be canceled last year. The main reason for this was the lack of financial support from the state, which did not want to provide 200,000 euros in funding as in the previous year.
