SCM won 36:26 (16:13) against Asian champions Sharjah SC from the United Arab Emirates, but struggled at times. Daniel Pettersson was Magdeburg's top scorer with seven goals.

Coach Bennet Wiegert called a timeout and complained about his team's attacks: "We're not causing them problems, we're causing ourselves problems." The SCM only took the lead for the first time after 22 minutes and was able to pull away somewhat in the final minutes.
