The German champions are struggling in Lemgo, with the hosts staying within striking distance throughout. Still, the SCM leads from start to finish and ultimately earns a well-deserved victory.

SC Magdeburg remains on a winning streak in the Handball Bundesliga. The team from Magdeburg celebrated a 31:28 (17:16) victory at TBV Lemgo-Lippe. Magdeburg’s top scorer was Omar Ingi Magnusson with eleven goals. With one game in hand, SCM sits in second place behind THW Kiel.

Magdeburg was immediately in the game, especially on offense, consistently finding successful solutions. Defensively, however, they lacked grip, and so they could only manage a narrow lead (6–4/7th minute). Shooting percentages on both sides were over 80 percent at times, preventing the SCM from pulling away.

Magdeburg’s leads don’t hold

Lemgo quickly countered a three-goal lead by Magdeburg, partly because the SCM’s goalkeeping was lacking. Goalkeeper Dominik Kuzmanovic, of all people, then restored the three-goal lead, but Lemgo closed the gap again before halftime. The game remained close at the start of the second half as well, though both teams now squandered more scoring opportunities, failing to get past the defense or the goalkeeper.

The German champions nevertheless pulled ahead by three goals once again, only to fail yet again to extend their lead (21:18/39.). The hosts brought in a seventh field player, but Magdeburg still managed to extend its lead to four goals. But once again, the hosts kept the game close.

Both teams now had to work harder for their goals than in the first half, but the SCM held a three-goal lead shortly before the end (30:27/57.) and secured the victory.
