Dresdner SC, a team in the German Volleyball Bundesliga, has responded to the serious injury sustained by national team player Patricia Nestler by further strengthening its libero position. The six-time German champion announced the signing of Canadian national team player Katerina Georgiadis. The 24-year-old is transferring from Greek first-division club Aris Thessaloniki to Dresden and has signed a contract through the end of the season. Whether Georgiadis will be able to play in the home game against the Binder Blaubären TSV Flacht depends on the ongoing application process for her work and residence permits. “Katerina is a libero who has already proven herself at the highest level, particularly with the Canadian national team. She has played with and against the best players in the world. This experience should make it easier for her to integrate into our team and our playing systems,” explains DSC head coach Alexander Waibl. At the same time, there is now certainty regarding the further course of treatment for captain Nestler. The partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee, sustained during the Bundesliga opener, means a premature end to the season for the 25-year-old. Following thorough medical examinations, the treatment plan has been finalized. Nestler will undergo surgery in Heidelberg in early November and then begin her rehabilitation in Dresden.
