Robert Farken won gold at the World Road Running Championships, marking the greatest achievement of his career to date. The 28-year-old from Leipzig prevailed in Copenhagen in the non-Olympic mile (1.60934 kilometers) with a time of 3:51.80 minutes, beating the slight favorite, Yared Nuguse of the United States (+0.53 seconds). Bronze went to Ruben Querinjean of Luxembourg (+0.97 seconds). At the European Championships in Birmingham more than a month ago, Farken failed to win a medal despite his ambitions and had to settle for a disappointing ninth place in the 1,500 meters. Now he has achieved success in a field of about 70 runners. Farken is the German record holder in the mile. At the end of July, he set the national record in London with a time of 3:46.82 minutes.
