Saxony scores highly in the German Teachers' Award. A school principal from Leipzig and a teacher from Vogtland are honored for their commitment and special dedication.

Saxony has scooped twice at the German Teachers' Award. Jenny Krzyzaniak, Svetlana Thieme and Kati Klinzing from the Denis Diderot School in Leipzig received the first prize for "Exemplary School Management". They impressed the expert jury with their outstanding networking and cooperation as well as their enthusiasm for their school.

The secondary school's staff, who nominated the management team for the award, highlighted their caring and inspiring leadership style. "This team is not only the thinking brain, but also the feeling heart. With an open door, a clear view and genuine trust," wrote one teacher. The girls from Leipzig beat Roswitha Malewski from Kuppelnau Primary School in Ravensburg, Baden-Württemberg (second prize) and Carsten Arntz and Kathrin Wichmann from the Erzbischöfliches Berufskolleg in Cologne.

Vogtland teachers awarded

A prize also went to Saxony in another category: Philipp Limmer from the Zentralschule Adorf (Vogtland) was one of the ten "Outstanding Teachers" selected by a jury from the suggestions of students in the final year. He teaches mathematics and geography.

His students value him as particularly committed and helpful, even outside of the classroom. "Now that I've finished school, I'm convinced that I had the best teacher I could have wished for," says one of them about him. There was also praise for Limmer's creative teaching methods: he sometimes used unusual ways to illustrate things. "That was much more memorable than always having to listen."

Award ceremony in Berlin

The Teachers' Award is presented by the German Philologists' Association and the Heraeus Education Foundation. It is considered the most prestigious award for dedicated teachers. It is awarded once a year in Berlin. A total of ten teachers, three head teachers and five teaching teams from ten federal states received an award.
