A full twelve years separate Saxony's youngest and oldest municipalities. There are also differences between women and men.

On average, people in Saxony are a good two years older than the national average in Germany. As of December 31, the average age in the Free State was 47.2 years, according to the State Statistical Office. Across Germany, the average was 45.0 years. Compared to 2011, the average age in the Free State rose by 0.8 years—a smaller increase than the national average (up 1.1 years). 

People in Leipzig and Ralbitz-Rosenthal are the youngest

There are significant differences within Saxony. There is a gap of about 12 years between the oldest and youngest municipalities on average. In Ralbitz-Rosenthal in the Bautzen district and in Leipzig, residents had the lowest average age at 42.3 years. The highest average age, at 54.5 years, was recorded in the municipalities of Jonsdorf, Kurort, and Olbersdorf in the Görlitz district. At 48.9 years, women in Saxony were, on average, significantly older than men, whose average age was 45.5 years.
