With 20 premieres, moving material and a look at the "we": Schauspiel Leipzig invites you to question boundaries - and bids farewell to an artistic director with record capacity utilization.

The Leipzig Schauspiel is focusing on community in the new season. Under the motto "We-Songs", the focus is on the question of social affiliations, conflicts, longings and contradictions, as the theater announced. Twenty premieres are planned in four venues.

The large, two-part epic "The Legacy" by Matthew Lopez opens the season on the main stage. It deals with questions of belonging, responsibility, desire and social cohesion and tells of the possibilities and impositions of a "we" in the present day.

This will be followed by "Bernarda Alba's House" by Federico García Lorca, followed by Anton Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya" next March. In addition, another family play based on Lewis Carroll's "Alice Behind the Mirrors" will be staged at Schauspiel Leipzig. At the end of the season, Schauspiel Leipzig will present "Schöne Vorstellung", a production that takes you through the entire theater, tells theater history and stories and presents the entire ensemble once again.

New artistic director team next year

It will be the last season of artistic director Enrico Lübbe. During his time, the capacity utilization of the performances has risen continuously and reached 83% last year, the highest level in the theatre's history.

Next summer, Clara Weyde, Bastian Lomsché and Clemens Leander will lead the municipal theater together as a team directorship. In this constellation, they currently successfully manage the drama department at Theater Magdeburg, which was named Theater of the Year in Germany in 2025.
