The Dresden Music Festival is to be opened by the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time this year. This was announced by the orchestra. The opening concert on May 15 at the Kulturpalast will feature a prominent double performance: festival director Jan Vogler himself will play the cello. Norwegian conductor Tabita Berglund will be conducting, while Dresden comedian Olaf Schubert will host the evening.
Classical music meets humor
The programme is also aimed at a wider audience: well-known orchestral works such as the colourful overture to "Oberon" by Carl Maria von Weber and "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Modest Mussorgsky will be performed in a particularly sonorous orchestral version. In addition, the cello concerto "Tout un monde lointain" by Henri Dutilleux is a rather rarely performed piece.
Vogler emphasized the mixture of sophistication and entertainment: "The cello concerto by Henri Dutilleux is poetic and full of surprises." At the same time, humor should not be neglected on this evening - this is what Olaf Schubert stands for as a "master of nuances".
