The Saxon government cabinet wants to improve the funding conditions for literacy projects for children, young people and adults with reading and writing difficulties. As announced by the State Ministry of Culture in Dresden, in future it will also be possible to provide financial support for specific positions instead of a lump sum for personnel costs for courses.
Tilo Schumann, spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, said that there are cases in which this type of funding "is less bureaucratic for everyone involved". So-called "school camps" are to be funded more generously in future by lowering the required participant quota. In future, a course will be considered "successful" if 60 percent of the project days have actually been implemented (previously 80 percent). This should reduce the financial risk for providers - for example, if participants have to drop out due to illness.
The changes to the "Educational potential for lifelong learning 2021-2027" funding guideline will be made on the basis of an external evaluation, it is reported. A total of 133.9 million euros is currently available for funding - 81.2 million euros of which comes from the European Social Fund. The Free State of Saxony is providing 52.7 million euros in co-financing.
