Werder Bremen want to continue their good run of five games in a row without defeat in their reunion with former coach Ole Werner. "The aim is to carry on exactly as before," said Bremen coach Horst Steffen about the successful phase before the international break.
However, Steffen is aware of the difficulty of the task at second-placed Leipzig. "They're already doing really well," said Steffen, who has particular respect for the Saxons' many fast players. It was therefore important to avoid losing the ball easily. "Whoever makes fewer mistakes in the build-up has a good chance of winning the game," said Steffen.
Special game for many professionals
The fact that it is a special game for many players because of the reunion with Ole Werner is not something Steffen wants to deny. "It's quite normal for people who have worked together to have memories. But I don't know how much Ole Werner is still in each individual," said Werner's successor at the Weser.
Steffen himself has not yet had any contact with his predecessor. "We haven't met in person yet," said Steffen, who praised Werner's "great work" in Leipzig. The Saxons have only lost two games this season. On the first matchday at FC Bayern Munich and before the international break at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. If Steffen has his way, there will be defeat number three on Sunday (3.30pm/Sky).
