Upheaval for Dresden volleyball players

One week after the end of the season, it is clear that volleyball Bundesliga club Dresdner SC will lose its two top attackers Marta Levinska and Lorena Lorber Fijok. The German runners-up have announced that both will be leaving the club after two years to take up a new challenge. Six other players will also no longer play for Dresden in the coming season.

The Latvian international Marta Levinska was the second-best scorer in the Bundesliga in both seasons and was also named the Bundesliga MVP in the past season. "Marta has far exceeded expectations. She has developed enormously and was instrumental in our medals and titles," said coach Alexander Waibl, praising the diagonal attacker.

The crowd favorite is also leaving

Slovenian international Lorena Lorber Fijok also proved to be an absolute top performer in attack and was one of the Champions League participant's most influential players as a crowd favorite. "Lorena has played her way into the hearts of our fans. She is an exceptional athlete who invests everything in her success with unbelievable passion," explained Waibl.

The club will also be reshuffling its set pieces, as Emma Grome and Larissa Winter are leaving the Super Cup winners. Rosa Entius, Miku Akimoto, Amanda Siksna and Amelia van der Werff are also leaving.

Last Wednesday, Dresden had to bury their dream of a seventh championship title in the club's history with their third defeat in the Bundesliga play-off final against VfB Suhl.
