Bundesliga volleyball club Dresdner SC is set for a major personnel shake-up. After captain Sarah Straube had already announced her move abroad, seven more players will be leaving the German cup winners and championship runners-up.
Club budget gets smaller
The club is saying goodbye to Belgian middle blocker Nathalie Lemmens, who has played for Dresden since 2023 and was also co-captain most recently. "We would have loved to keep Nathalie for another year, but our limited resources didn't allow it," said coach Alexander Waibl, who has less budget available for his squad for the coming season than for the past season.
Russian Wictoria Demidowa, Swiss international Julie Lengweiler, Emma Scarlett Clothier from the USA and Greek Stamatia Kyparisi will also not receive a new contract from the club after just one season. "Sometimes individual needs don't fit in with the club's plans. The four players should definitely be able to play in the regular squad, which we couldn't guarantee them," said Waibl.
With Lena Linke, who has been part of the squad since 2022, and Lotte Goertz, who has been part of the professional team since 2023, two home-grown players are also leaving their home club. The Elbe club had previously announced the contract extensions of key players Marta Levinska, Lorena Lorber Fijok, Patricia Nestler and Larissa Winter.
