Schwerin's volleyball players have celebrated an important victory against fellow rivals Dresdner SC in the battle for a good starting position for the play-offs. The team of head coach Felix Koslowski won 3:1 (16:25, 25:22, 25:20, 25:19) against the Saxons and celebrated their eleventh win in their 15th match. For the DSC, on the other hand, it was not only their fourth defeat in their 14th match, but also their first against the German champions this season after their success in the cup and in the first half of the season.
Schwerin did not get into the game at all in the first set and revealed problems in all areas. However, the club from Mecklenburg fought back from 8:14 down to 15:17, but then conceded a 0:6 run from which it was unable to recover.
The SSC was much better in the second set and also benefited from a higher error rate on the part of the team of Head Coach Alexander Waibl. Although the defending champions were only able to capitalize on their fourth set point after leading 24:19, the equalizer to make it 1:1 was highly deserved.
High-class match
It remained a high-class duel with spectacular rallies for long stretches after that. Schwerin proved to be the more effective team at the end of the third round and also got off to a much better start in the decisive fourth round.
Dresden made too many mistakes and fell 8:14 behind. Nevertheless, the game became tense again after DSC caught up to 15:17. However, Schwerin kept its cool, earned five match points and made everything clear with the first one.
