Roger Schmidt has taken on his new role as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull, succeeding current German national soccer team coach Jürgen Klopp. The longtime coach says he intends to lead the “Global Soccer” unit with the goal of building teams that develop the best young players and bring them to the highest level. “It feels good to be back with the Red Bull family,” Schmidt said in an RB press release. “This environment is unique in world soccer, and the ambition behind it is what makes it so exciting. Now I’m looking forward to getting to know the people behind our clubs, understanding how they work, and to build the future on foundations that are already strong,” emphasized the 59-year-old, who coached RB Salzburg from 2012 to 2014 and launched his career as an internationally successful coach there. Later, he served as head coach at Bayer Leverkusen, among other roles. His first few weeks in his new role will be entirely focused on the clubs: meetings with coaching staff, sports management, and academy directors, as well as attending matches in Salzburg and Leipzig. Afterward, Schmidt plans to speak publicly for the first time about his ambitions and working methods. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reservedBack with the “Red Bull Family”
