Bundesliga handball team SC Magdeburg has won the Wartburg Cup preparation tournament in Eisenach. The team from the city on the Elbe collected two wins and one defeat.
On Friday evening, the team from the city on the Elbe won the first game of the tournament against VfL Gummersbach 36:35 (19:18). In the process, the German champions, often strengthened with talents from the third-division team as of late, made up a three-goal deficit at one stage. On Saturday, the team from the city on the Elbe also decided the duel with hosts ThSV Eisenach in their favor, winning 31:25 (16:14). With these two victories, SCM's tournament victory was already certain. In the final game, the Green-Red team lost 33:37 (16:17) to Danish representative Skanderbord-Aarhus.
