Leaders SC Magdeburg remain top of the table in the German Handball League. Against Frischauf Göppingen, the team from the city on the Elbe won 37:26 (22:12) in front of 6600 spectators. Magdeburg's top scorer was Felix Claar with seven goals.
Magdeburg missed the start of the game and trailed by one - but then turned the game around with a 3:0 run (5:4/8th). The home side had got into the game and gradually increased its lead. Sergey Hernandez played strongly in goal, while Felix Claar in particular scored up front, although Hernandez also added a goal (12:6/17). The SCM repeatedly benefited from time penalties against the visitors and was already clearly ahead at the break.
After the break, Magdeburg extended its lead to a dozen goals and remained focused despite the clear lead. Magdeburg made a change in goal after 44 minutes, with Matej Mandic replacing the outstanding Hernandez (15 saves). Daniel Pettersson scored his 500th goal for the SCM to make it 31:19 (45'). Magdeburg's victory remained unchallenged even when the club in the green and reds shifted down a gear. Magdeburg will host MT Melsungen for its next home game on Wednesday.
