SC Magdeburg remains unbeaten in the German Handball League. They beat MT Melsungen 31:27 (15:13) in front of 6,600 spectators on Wednesday evening. It was the SCM's 14th win in its 15th league game. Magdeburg's top scorer was Felix Claar with eight goals.
Following the end of his ban for a positive doping test, SCM goalkeeper Nikola Portner was back in the Getec Arena for the first time and was greeted with chants. However, the Swiss player was not in the squad.
Magdeburg found it difficult to get into the game and did not really find a grip in defense - but still led narrowly after nine minutes (6:5). Magdeburg's Gisli Kristjansson crashed to the floor after 17 minutes and only returned after the break. The Red & Greens had problems with the visitors' 7-on-6, but still led narrowly at the break.
After half-time, Melsungen equalized (15:15/33) and continued to rely consistently on a seventh court player, but SCM patiently carved out a two-goal lead again (19:17/39). The home side capitalized on mistakes by MT in attack to cut the gap to four goals for the first time (25:21/46). Melsungen visibly ran out of steam, Magdeburg pulled further ahead - and secured victory.
