The handball players of SC DHfK Leipzig still have to wait for their first away win of the Bundesliga season. The team of Head Coach Frank Carstens lost 26:30 (13:16) at HC Erlangen. In front of 5,397 spectators, international Franz Semper was the best scorer with seven goals for the bottom club in the table, which now has 5:29 points.
After an evenly poised start, Erlangen took command and benefited from the visitors' passive defending. The former Leipzig player Viggo Kristjansson shone at the back as both scorer and passer and put the HCE 11:6 ahead in the 15th minute. However, the home side then made an increasing number of technical mistakes, with the result that Leipzig was able to reduce the deficit slightly by the break.
After the break, both sides initially dominated in defense. Erlangen went almost twelve minutes without scoring, which Leipzig exploited to tie the scores at 17:17 in the 44th minute. The home side then found its rhythm in offense again. Andri Runarsson, another ex-Leipzig player, now took on responsibility for finishing, enabling Erlangen to pull 27:23 ahead in the 55th minute.
