The Bundesliga handball team SC DHfK Leipzig were unable to halt their negative streak on the debut of their new coach Frank Carstens. The Leipzig side lost 27:34 (12:19) at VfL Gummersbach in the evening and remain bottom of the table with 2:24 points. Right wing Lucas Krzikalla was SC DHfK's best scorer with seven goals.
The visitors made a determined start to the game and created the basis for a 4:2 lead (8th minute) with their strong defending. However, they subsequently made a host of technical mistakes and also let up in their retreat.
As a result, Gummersbach turned the initial deficit into an 11:4 lead (17') with a 9:0 run. However, Carstens' players proved their morale and fought their way back to 23:25 by the 49th minute, also thanks to the strong impetus of playmaker Ahmed Khairi. In the final phase, international Julian Köster took on responsibility for VfL and secured a deserved home victory.
