The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team suffered its sixth defeat in its seventh away game of the Bundesliga season. The team coached by Runar Sigtryggsson lost 30:31 (14:15) at HSG Wetzlar in a duel between the league rivals. With eight goals, national player Franz Semper was the best scorer for SC DHfK, who are twelfth in the table with 12:16 points.
At the start of the second half, both teams staged an open exchange of blows. Leipzig were now more varied in attack and made more efficient use of their chances than HSG. Semper put the visitors three goals ahead for the first time in the 44th minute (24:21). However, they then repeatedly failed to score against Wetzlar's goalkeeper Anadin Suljakovic.
The home side seized the momentum and recaptured the lead with a 5:1 run to make it 26:25 in the 51st minute. Wetzlar kept up the pace in the final spell and stretched the gap to 31:28 shortly before the end (58'). However, the visitors did not give up, reduced the deficit to 30:31 and even had the chance to equalize with the last attack of the game. However, William Bogojevic shot hastily from the backcourt.
