The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team suffered another disappointment in the Bundesliga. The team of coach Raul Alonso lost the basement duel at newly promoted GWD Minden 26:32 (16:15) on Friday evening. Luca Rogan, Lucas Krzikalla and Tom Koschek were the best scorers in front of 1,867 spectators with four goals each for the bottom club in the table, which now has 2:22 points.
Leipzig got off to a nervous start to the game and trailed 4:7 by the eleventh minute. The visitors then stabilized and moved the ball much better in attack. However, some carelessness in defense prevented them from taking a bigger lead at the break.
After the break, Leipzig lost its playful line and repeatedly failed to score against GWD goalkeeper Malte Semisch. The home side seized the momentum and pulled 25:19 ahead in the 45th minute with a 10:3 run. Even a timeout by Alonso did not bring about the hoped-for turnaround for the visitors. Semisch continued to make outstanding saves and ended up with 19 saves. As a result, Minden's victory was no longer in danger.
