"Reset button pressed": SCM rested for last home game

German handball champions SC Magdeburg want to complete a very special series in their last home game of the season. Against VfL Gummersbach on Wednesday (20:00/Dyn), the SCM can finish its home season unbeaten. "That will be a great opportunity. I don't know the last time SCM didn't lose a home game in the Bundesliga," said Head Coach Bennet Wiegert.

In 16 appearances in the Getec Arena, SCM came away victorious 15 times, only against THW Kiel there was a 26:26 draw one day before Christmas. "I want to soak it up as much as possible," said Wiegert about the last home game.

Farewell game time

Several professionals, including long-serving players, will be bid farewell during the game. "It will be super emotional," said Wiegert and held out the prospect of playing time for those leaving: "There may be changes to the squad."

The SCM will go into the game against Gummersbach feeling quite refreshed. After winning the championship ahead of schedule, Wiegert gave his players a long weekend with individual plans. "I made sure they slowed down. It wasn't a typical week for us," said Wiegert.

He had the Champions League final tournament in particular in mind: "I wanted to press the reset button." SCM will face Füchse Berlin in the semi-finals of the premier class on June 13 (3 p.m.) in Cologne.
