RB Leipzig will kick off the newly formed Champions League in Madrid. Marco Rose's team will play their first match in the top flight at Atlético on September 19 (9:00 p.m.), the Bundesliga club announced. The Saxons will then welcome Juventus Turin for their home opener on October 2 (9:00 p.m.). With the game against Liverpool FC on October 23 (9:00 p.m.), RB have two home games in a row before they travel to Celtic Glasgow once again on November 5 (9:00 p.m.).
The European Football Union (UEFA) has comprehensively reformed the premier league. Instead of groups, all 36 clubs play in one league, each club against eight opponents. The top eight teams in the table at the end of the league phase qualify for the round of 16. The clubs in 9th to 24th place in the table play in a new knockout round to progress.
