Tournament director Philipp Lahm can well imagine a surprise team in the last four of this European Football Championship. "I still hope that there will be a surprise team that might make it to the semi-finals, where nobody expected them to," said Lahm on Monday in Leipzig.
The 2014 world champion is also counting on the team of national coach Julian Nagelsmann. "Anything is possible. First of all, we have very good players. As we've seen, they also work well as a team. Nevertheless, you never know when it comes to the knockout matches. Spain look very stable to me," said the 40-year-old.
Lahm also gave the Austrians and Ralf Rangnick a good report card. "I'm confident that Austria will progress, they have a good team, maybe Austria will be the surprise team," said Lahm.
