Bundesliga basketball club Niners Chemnitz has celebrated its third home win in the Eurocup. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore defeated bottom-placed Panionios Athens 73:68 (37:40) on Tuesday evening after a comeback in the final quarter and now has a record of four wins and six defeats in Group B. Amadou Sow was the Niners' best scorer with 19 points.
The club from Chemnitz started the game with high intensity and quickly took a 9:2 lead (4th minute). However, the home side then made life difficult for itself with poorly prepared shots and careless defending. Nevertheless, they maintained a narrow lead for a long time before Athens turned the game around with a 9:0 run before the break.
The Niners were also unable to establish a rhythm in offense after the break. The visitors gained advantages under the basket and pulled 66:53 ahead in the 32nd minute. Yet Chemnitz did not give up. They stepped up the pressure in defense, switched at lightning speed after winning possession and turned the game around with a spectacular 20:2 run.
