Bundesliga basketball club Niners Chemnitz has suffered another setback in the Eurocup. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore lost 71:84 (39:37) to Montenegrin serial champions Buducnost Podgorica in front of a home crowd. Kevin Yebo was the most successful player for the club from Saxony in its fifth defeat in its seventh game with 20 points.
The home side defended with great intensity from the outset and led 19:12 after eight minutes. After a 9:0 spurt by the Montenegrins, a duel at eye level developed from the second quarter on. Podgorica increasingly exploited its physical advantages under the basket in attack, but Chemnitz countered with great commitment and a quick transition game.
Slump in the final period
The game remained fiercely contested and at times tough after the break. Nike Sibande put Chemnitz 66:64 (36') in front in the final quarter. However, the Bundesliga club collapsed in the final spell and even lost by a clear margin after a 0:11 run.
