The Niners Chemnitz let fans with a sleep mask experience the world of the visually impaired at the home game against Vechta.

In their first home game after winning the European Cup, the Niners Chemnitz basketball team are drawing attention to people with visual impairments with an experiment. Against newly promoted Vechta, the 5,000 fans expected on Wednesday (17:00/Dyn) are to cover their eyes with a sleep mask in the first minute of the second quarter. Meanwhile, the action will be described by a commentator. The aim is for fans to experience how live sport is followed by blind or severely visually impaired people.

The sponsor's idea, which was reported by the "Freie Presse" on Tuesday, was approved in advance by the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). Normally, no announcer is allowed to be active once the ball has crossed the halfway line. The masks will be available in the spectators' seats at the start of the game.

The Fiba Europe Cup, which was won in Istanbul a week ago, will be presented during the game. On Sunday, 10,000 fans had already celebrated the team in the city. Chemnitz had lost its first Bundesliga game after the European coup last Saturday in Ludwigsburg.
