Basketball Bundesliga club MBC Syntainics and coach Marco Ramondino are parting ways. After seven defeats in a row, the German cup winners and the 43-year-old Italian have mutually agreed to terminate their two-year contract, which runs until mid-2027, the MBC announced. Sports Director Silvano Poropat will step in as interim coach until a new head coach is found.
Ramondino approached the club's management on Saturday after the 84:110 defeat against promoted Trier, the highest defeat of the season, with his wish to terminate his contract. The Italian thus drew the consequences of the Wolves' longest negative streak in almost three years.
The experienced Poropat had shaped an era in Weißenfels basketball as head coach. The Croatian was the Wolves' head coach on and off from 2011 to 2021. He returned as sports director in August 2025 as part of the restructuring of the management team. Now the 54-year-old is stepping in as interim coach. He will make his comeback in this Friday's home game (20:00) against Oldenburg.
