Despite slowing down shortly after the start, eight-time motorcycle world champion Marc Márquez won the sprint race at the Sachsenring. The Ducati rider lived up to his role as favorite in wet conditions, although he temporarily dropped back to fifth place. He overtook Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) on the final lap. The podium was completed by Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo from France.
In the overall standings, Márquez extended his already large lead. The Spaniard will contest his 200th race in the premier class on Sunday (14:00/DF 1 and Sky) and will start from pole position for this anniversary.
For Márquez's brand colleague Franco Morbidelli, the sprint ended prematurely. The 30-year-old was taken to the medical center after a heavy crash. Maverick Viñales had already dislocated his shoulder in an accident during qualifying.
