SC Magdeburg has conceded its first point in the German Handball League. Less than 48 hours after the win at FC Barcelona, the team from the Elbe city did not manage to get past HC Erlangen 31:31 (11:16). Omar Ingi Magnusson was Magdeburg's best scorer with eleven goals.
Magnus Saugstrup was back in the SCM squad and initially sat on the bench. Magdeburg did not get off to a good start on court, missed a number of shots and trailed 2:5 in the 8th minute. The Red & Greens worked their way into the game, but failed too often against the former Magdeburg player Dario Quenstedt in goal to equalize (7:8/21st). Erlangen capitalized on several mistakes by Magdeburg to extend its lead before the break.
Magdeburg's energetic performance only partially rewarded
Magdeburg stepped up its game after the break, gradually reduced the deficit and forced Erlangen to call a timeout (16:18/38'). Lukas Mertens hit the post to equalize in the 40th minute, but Magdeburg was back within striking distance. However, the SCM then lost its way again and Erlangen stretched the gap to four goals (20:24/47).
Magdeburg fought back again and equalized (27:27/54). Erlangen looked like the certain winners in the final spell, but SCM managed to draw in the end.
