1. FC Magdeburg ends its losing streak against Nuremberg. The team from the Elbe city dominated the game against the Franconians, benefited from a sending-off and deserved to win.

After three defeats in a row, 1. FC Magdeburg have taken a step out of the crisis in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Elbe city team won 3:0 (0:0) against 1. FC Nürnberg. Mateusz Zukowski (73rd, 90.+6) and Maximilian Breunig (90.+10) scored for FCM to secure their third home win of the season. Nuremberg's Rafael Lubach was sent off with a yellow card (76'). Magdeburg remain bottom of the table, but still have their sights set on the non-relegation places. Nuremberg could slip out of the top half of the table on Sunday.

In protest against the plans of the conference of interior ministers, both Ultra groups in Magdeburg left the fan stands empty for the first twelve minutes, with organized support only starting in the 30th minute. Things were similarly quiet on the pitch: Magdeburg made an effort but failed to score, while Nuremberg were mostly dangerous from corners. The hosts only had the best chances towards the end of the half, but Philipp Hercher (41') failed to beat goalkeeper Jan Reichert, as did Laurin Ulrich (42'), although Nuremberg had to try their luck.

After the restart, there were pyrotechnics in both fan blocks, causing referee Felix Bickel to interrupt the game for 13 minutes. Magdeburg dominated the game, shifting it almost completely into the visitors' half. However, it took a set-piece to score: Zukowski reacted best to Baris Atik's free-kick and artistically put the ball in the net (73'). Shortly afterwards, Nuremberg's Lubach was sent off with a yellow card. Nuremberg became more present despite being outnumbered at the back, but failed to score. Magdeburg kept their cool and increased the lead to 2:0 through Zukowski (90.+6) before substitute Breunig made everything clear.
