Magdeburg coach Fiedler fine-tunes details against Bielefeld

For 1. FC Magdeburg, the two home defeats are in their bones ahead of the fifth matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga. With just three points, coach Markus Fiedler's team travel to newly promoted Arminia Bielefeld, who have four points more to their name. "That would actually be a top match on paper," said Fiedler ahead of the game in the Schüco Arena on Friday (18:30/Sky), which is packed with 26,000 spectators. "But we weren't there in the details and were too careless, so we can't be satisfied with the points we scored."

Both against Braunschweig (0:1) and Fürth (4:5), the team failed to exploit their superiority and conceded avoidable goals due to individual defensive mistakes. Fiedler is therefore calling for the lack of concentration to be rectified: "We have to defend more attentively and resolutely in all areas with the greed we showed in Dresden." Magdeburg picked up the only points so far in the 2-1 win in the East derby.

In the run-up to the game, Fiedler is preparing the professionals for precisely these details that have previously cost them points. In Bielefeld, the team must perform stably in order to take a step forward defensively, said Fiedler and demanded "a top performance in order to go home with three points at best".

Coaching license made with Kniat

Fiedler expects an opponent who will come at his team with force. Fiedler was already able to gain experience as coach of VfB Stuttgart II last season. A 3:0 home win was followed by a 1:4 defeat in East Westphalia.

Fiedler obtained his coaching license together with Bielefeld coach Mitch Kniat. "The other's game is relatively transparent," said Fiedler. Kniat himself, however, played it safe and watched Magdeburg's spectacular home defeat, which Fiedler commented on dryly: "It wouldn't have been necessary to come against Fürth."
