Bundesliga soccer club Bayer Leverkusen has signed goalkeeper Janis Blaswich from RB Leipzig. The 34-year-old has signed a contract with the Werkself until June 30, 2027, as the runners-up announced. Blaswich replaces Lukas Hradecky, who has moved to AS Monaco.
"In Janis Blaswich, we have found a top-class replacement in the goalkeeping position. This will allow us to continue working without any loss of quality in the goalkeeping team," said sporting director Simon Rolfes according to the press release. "In addition to his individual class, Janis brings great international experience."
Bayer had previously signed Mark Flekken as a regular keeper. The goalkeeping team also includes long-time substitute Niklas Lomb.
64 competitive games for Leipzig
Blaswich came to Leipzig from Dutch club Heracles Almelo in the summer of 2022 and played a total of 64 games in an RB shirt. Last season, the 1.93-metre goalkeeper played for FC Red Bull Salzburg on loan.
Leipzig's sporting director Marcel Schäfer explained that Blaswich is a "first-class goalkeeper, an outstanding team player and a model of loyalty and commitment". "Whenever he was needed, Janis put himself at the service of the team and delivered top performances," said Schäfer.
