Leipzig wins at HSV Hamburg despite red card

Last-placed SC DHfK Leipzig have celebrated their second win of the season in the German Handball League. In their first game after the European Championship break, the team from Saxony celebrated a 35:33 (19:15) away win at HSV Hamburg. The best scorers in front of 2,512 spectators were Dean Bombac with ten goals for Leipzig and Casper Mortensen with eight goals for Hamburg.

Jan Schmidt was in the Hamburg squad for the first time. The signing of the 20-year-old pivot from second-division club TSV Bayer Dormagen was originally planned for the summer, but has now been brought forward due to the knee operation of Danish international Andreas Magaard. Schmidt has been given a double playing right, which is valid for Hamburg and Dormagen.

Even a red card does not stop Leipzig

The new signing scored his first goal and the hosts' first goal with the 1-2 in the 3rd minute. However, European Championship silver medallist Franz Semper countered immediately to make it 3:1 for the Saxons. After Leipzig made it 10:5 (12'), HSVH coach Torsten Jansen called time-out for the first time.

In the 44th minute, Leipzig's Ahmed Khairi was shown the red card after a foul on Mortensen. HSVH then turned 22:27 (42') into 29:28 (50'). Thanks to strong performances from Bombac and Semper in particular, SC DHfK then had the better end.
