Gruda Out for DFB Training Camp
Brajan Gruda will not be spending the upcoming international break with the German national team. The RB Leipzig forward sustained an injury during the 0-2 loss to Bayer 04 Leverkusen that will prevent him from playing for the DFB team for the time being.
Gruda Suffers Abdominal Muscle Injury
As RB Leipzig announced on Monday, the 22-year-old has suffered a strain to his lateral abdominal muscles. Gruda’s game was over as early as the first half: After about 25 minutes, the Leipzig player had to leave the field.
Initially, coach Martin Demichelis had suggested after the game that the substitution might have been primarily a precautionary measure. However, the subsequent diagnosis provided certainty. Gruda will have to take it easy in the coming days and will therefore not be available for the upcoming international matches. DFB coach Jürgen Klopp will not nominate a replacement.
This also dashes his hopes—for now—of making his debut for the German senior national team. Gruda had been named to the squad by national team coach Jürgen Klopp for the upcoming matches.
Return Possible After the Break
Despite his absence, there is reason for optimism from Leipzig’s perspective. According to information from BILD, it does not appear to be an injury that will result in a prolonged absence. Reportedly, Gruda will only be sidelined for a few days.
A return immediately after the international break therefore seems possible. If his recovery goes as hoped, the offensive player could be available to RB Leipzig as early as the next competitive match.
For Gruda, this means he’ll have to be patient for now. While his debut for the German national team will have to be postponed, the injury does not appear to have any major long-term consequences.
