Marc Márquez claimed his tenth MotoGP victory in Germany in front of a record crowd at the Sachsenring, further cementing his reputation as the “King of the Ring.” The motorcycle world champion from Spain was waved across the finish line by Lothar Matthäus, Germany’s all-time leading soccer player, and won ahead of his two Aprilia rivals, Ai Ogura (Japan) and Raúl Fernández (Spain). With 261,831 fans in attendance, the Grand Prix is one of Germany’s largest single-sport events.
Former champion Jorge Martín (Aprilia) continues to lead the overall World Championship standings. Márquez narrowed the gap to his compatriot to 18 points and can continue to dream of defending his title. In addition, with ten MotoGP wins at a single circuit, he tied the record held by legend Giacomo Agostini, who triumphed ten times in Imatra, Finland, during the 1960s and 1970s.
Márquez had already won Saturday’s sprint race and started from pole position. In the main race, he left no room for doubt with a lead of nearly two seconds and dominated the action right from the start.
